They could pump money from the general fund into this it would make a lot of new jobs and stop our railroads and roads from going into the toilet. The 50 billon if funded into the curent railroad systems planned would help get the US ready for $5.00 and seven $7.00 gas.

If there pending mergers of the major airlines is permitted it seems to me to be in the area of restraint in trade. Also in the future they will be in financial difficulty and we will hear "THEY ARE TO BIG TO BE ALLOWED TO FAIL" as we have heard about auto companies, banks and insurance companies. Would the Sherman Anit-trust law cover this?

To have economic recovery that doesn’t have threads of corruption involved/SEIU/ACORN – (not all unions are corrupt, but it seems all of the unions involved with the present economy recovery are corrupt.) economic recovery must be a PRIVATE enterprise, NOT PUBLIC with gov. control/forced unionization; card check/employee free choice act – called employee free choice because many times gov. politicians lie.

The transportation bill, green jobs, and the unions mentioned, seem to be just what the Dr. ordered IF the Dr. ordered continued corruption in government policy. The Cornell Global Labor Institute, Apollo Alliance, and SEIU seem to have the same goals – to funnel money for their organizations from union members. As with many gov. schemes, their plan sounds as good as candy, but their main goals are not revealed. Apollo Alliance, SEIU, Van Jones, and ACORN - all have disturbing histories – NOT entities to trust with helping America.

Your mouth doesn't water at the idea of $50 billion in High Speed Rail (HSR) development over the next 6 years versus the Obama Admins $13 bil over 5? Oberstar and Mica are delivering in this legislation on all fronts, and we should help them push it through. Start here: http://transportation.house.gov/ and then go on to the senate. Write your own congressmen and senators, too.

Just to clarify, the Office of Intermodalism is not new, but Oberstar's legislation gives it a larger role. A 2002 paper by its Deputy Director describes it this way: "As part of the Office of the Secretary, the Office of Intermodalism provides a senior-level focal point within the Department to foster intermodal approaches and solutions to transportation concerns. It seeks to assure that passengers and freight are able to move in an integrated fashion over the nation's transportation systems, whether surface, air, or water." (http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-85881875.html)

The key is whether Oberstar's legislation is enough to take Intermodalism past the aspirational but easily marginalized "seek to assure" mission.
